On Deck--@ The New York Yankees

The Orioles have collected wins on the strength of starting pitching. They are 5th in the league in team ERA, 11th in team OPS. The Yankees are the opposite, ranking 12th in ERA, 4th in OPS. Is Yankee pitching the cure for sickly Oriole offense? The O's are missing CC Sabathia's turn. Is the Oriole offense just the confidence boost the struggling Yankee pitchers need?

One major concern for this series is that the Yankees don't have to face either Jeremy Guthrie or Zach Britton. Matchups are:

Tillman @ Burnett

TBA (Bergesen?) @ Hughes

Arrieta @ Nova

Things to Watch

  • Chris Tillman suffered from diminshed velocity in his last start. Yankee pitcher Phil Hughes is in the same boat. Dave Cameron wrote a piece for ESPN Insider arguing that is common among power pitchers in April.

  • Speaking of Tillman, the Yankees absolutely own him. They hit .339/.444/.390 against him. Tillman has given up more walks than he has strikeouts against the Yankees.

  • Over the last 5 games, Vlad Guerrero has 8 hits including a home run and a double. Keep it up, Vladdy!
